WWBWWBD - Week 6

How are we already in Week 6? Where We Be, What We Be Drinking (WWBWWBD) is our weekly peek at the gameday shenanigans we’ll be getting into, all because we’re contractually obligated to avoid watching college football.

glass: I'll be trying to get some rest in before my 6am flight out of San Jose, CR. After a week of running up and down beaches screaming at water birds, Kid Glass is going to be crawling all over our hotel room walls so the outlook for a good night's sleep is spotty at best.

Biff: Wife is out of town so I'll be solo-parenting and managing hockey practice for my kid here in Rochester, MN. The dog will be thrilled to have us home for the weekend for once, right up until one of us is sitting in her spot.

Which will be me as I enjoy a few local Little Thistle brews riding out the Battle of Purdue Harbor on my couch.

MNW: I had to open up Google Calendar to get an idea of how I was going to answer this question. That's where things are at these days.

Good thing I did, too, because I reminded me that Mrs. MNW signed me up for two of my absolute favorite activities this weekend:

  1. A joint kid's birthday party, at the house of some friends who like to not just throw a birthday party for their kids, but invite 70+ people over to their house. It'll be children everywhere, and while I like these two friends, I find most of my time at these parties is making polite conversation with their other friends, who I don't actually like all that much. OH! And then...
  2. A pumpkin patch with the in-laws for my mother-in-law's 70somethingth birthday. A fucking pumpkin patch.

I won't watch a second of what had better be a comfortable romp over Balls Tate. When I get home at the end of that day--that fucking day--I will be putting the girls to bed, then retreating to the basement to drink the leftovers of Friday's Oktoberfest extravaganza -- when I make brats, pretzels, sauerkraut, and spaetzle for the family, the girls complain that they don't like it, and the wife gets mad at me for opening 3+ Oktoberfest beers for us to sample.

It's going to be enough that I almost wish I was still in Grand Forks.

BRT: In Lincoln. I'm still deciding if I want to check out the football game which is sure to be a giant disappointment. But I'm really headed to Lincoln because I've got tickets to Nebraska - Wisconsin volleyball that night, and THAT should be worth watching.

BoilerUp89: Buffalo Trace in Cincinnati.

WSR: I will be in greater Saint Paul attending a local high school performance of Clue, in which Kid1 will get murdered. It's the 2nd time in 3 years she's died on stage, and she really goes over the top. So while watching the 2nd performance, I'll have an AirPod in to listen to Mike Grimm calling what I hope isn't a harboring and sipping on some hot beverage that may contain my mom’s attempt at a pumpkin spice moonshine.

IUinVA: Kid fall ball and college football. Rinse, repeat.

MaximumSam: Back at Chateau Westerville surrounded by cheap wine. Feels like our supply of beautiful 70 degree days are running out. Glad I can spend one watching football.

Brian: Los Angeles. Michigan (thankfully) has an off week and so do I. So I’ll be enjoying the near-triple-digit degree heat in Southern California … while the Michigan fan base continues to lose its collective mind 2,000 miles away.

Transient Buckeye: I should be in the middle of a relatively calm patch for this portion of the semester.  So it'll probably be yard work in the morning (got dozens of jalapenos that are going to need harvesting), then on to the game threads and football in the afternoon.  Usual progression should be in order, water giving way to beer as I watch Ohio State mark off the last free space on its Bingo card this season.

BuffKomodo: Cincinnati. Basement bar. Garage Beer lime. Hoping the streak can continue one more week.

Kind of...: Greater Philadelphia area watching whatever suits my fancy since Wisconsin is on a bye.

lincolnparkwildcat: I'll be in Evanston again at New Ryan Field. I'll bring my usual local IPAs.

RMB: For once I have a different answer.  Ok, it starts the same (my basement, shitposting).  But in the afternoon I'll be shifting to lovely Parker, CO where I'll be attending a Halloween party.  I'm going as "control group."  I'll be drinking iced tea, I'm sure.

thumpasaurus: I will be at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing for a showdown between two teams that are going nowhere. Barrel aged Malört is the only appropriate beverage.

misdreavus79: One of the children has football far away so I'll be far away and hopefully back by kickoff.

deadread: I will be in beautiful downtown Lincoln. Sunrise. Sunset.

HoustonBoiler: I'll be at home, continuing my gutter guard installation. Yes, it has been taking forever. Installation was put on hold for a while last Saturday afternoon so that I could make a few unexpected repairs. The current forecast for this Saturday is plenty of sunshine, but rain all day on Sunday. So I will be drinking water during the day, followed by wine and/or whisky in the evening. If Mrs. HB wants to get crazy, we'll pop open a bottle of bubbly.

AlmaOtter: Mama Otter is in town this weekend, which means several things: good food, lots of wine, card games, and an Illinois win. If I may present my mother's resume:

-2022 at Wisconsin, 34-10.
-2023 v Indiana, 48-45 (OT).
-2024 v #17 Kansas, 23-17.
-2025 v Rutgers, 35-13.

4-0 ain't nothing to fuck with. Park your mortgage on that Illini moneyline.
(THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE)

Now you know our plans for the weekend. Please enlighten us about where you'll be and what you'll be drinking in the comments below. And hey, we know you didn't read this. 😉
