Where We Be, What We Be Drinking (WWBWWBD) is our weekly look at where we’re headed, which bottles and/or cans we're hitting, and how we plan to steer clear of college football on game day.
thumpasaurus: I will be in Riverside Park in Detroit playing a show with a salsa band. It's an hour set that will start about a half hour after the Purdue Cannon game kicks off. I will probably be home to watch the second half, which will probably require drinking a lot of whiskey.
MNW: As Northwestern takes to the turf at New Ryan Field, I will be in Potatotown USA, giving a talk at a summit on farm policy as part of some post-summit salon meeting. Drink will be a glass of red wine if they're pouring, though this seems like the crowd that doesn't mix booze and business. No word on how they'll feel about me watching the NU game on my phone, wedged between my legs. "I dunno, guys – talking wheat dumping really makes me have to look at my crotch."
When the dust settles there, I've lined up some hooch: Junkyard, pound-for-pound one of the best breweries in Minnesota, a bottle of Panther Distilling whiskey I pick up on the Thursday night drive direct from the source, and perhaps a Nordic-styled beverage from another place in town.
Then Saturday is (1) Tag der Deutschen Einheit, (2) a family Oktoberfest celebration on some land in western wisconsin with a VERY extra host and lots of kegs, and (3) a day in which I complete another revolution around ol' Sol. So best of luck to your shitty teams, I doubt I'll watch a second of them until laaaaate

glass: At kickoff I will ideally be waiting to step off a plane in San Jose, Costa Rica. Probably chomping on gum in a futile attempt to get my ears to pop while locked in a titanic struggle to persuade my 5 year old to carry on with her inevitable public meltdown as quietly as possible.
BRT: I'll be in Asheville, NC. I'm visiting family, and they're more wine drinkers than beer drinkers, so probably a variety of reds. Go Big Red, I guess!
BoilerUp89: Los Angeles for a wedding. Open bar I hope. The bride's family speaks Spanish more fluently than English so its a good opportunity for me to dust off my high school Spanish: "Hola. Cómo te llamas?" Thats about all I remember.
lincolnparkwildcat: I will be in Evanston at the inaugural game of the new Ryan Field! I'll buy a six pack of my favorite local IPAs to drink in the parking lot, and I'll look forward to seeing what beer is offered in our amazing new stadium.
BuffKomodo: Grand Rapids, Michigan. Visiting friends who will judge me for watching the game on my phone. Whatever they serve in GR, probably a gummy and some Bells or some shit.
MaximumSam: I'll be in downtown Chicago taking a tour of all the bars and drinking all the drinks. My wife and I decided we needed a break from our children.
Biff: Second attempt of the season to bring my kid to a game, hoping I don't get called in to work this time while I’m about to leave the driveway. So probably one parking lot light beer and then spending the first half developing hope that may or may not be false.
IUinVA: Kid fall ball and college football. Another great fall weekend.
WSR: Somewhere in Minnesota. Will it be the Gopher game? My couch? The backyard with a TV set up while kids do stupid shit? An orchard? Fuck if I know.
Brian: I'll be eschewing airports this weekend and staying home in Los Angeles.
misdreavus79: Friday night means I'll be doing child things, probably missing half the game as I put them to bed.
Transient Buckeye: I will be at home in the north Dayton suburbs. Making steak chili in the morning and getting it into the crock pot to simmer all day, then settling in to shitpost and watch football in the afternoon. Water early if I'm smart, switching to beers in the later afternoon/evening.
deadread: Where will I be? I will be in beautiful downtown Lincoln, of course.
HoustonBoiler: I will once again, weather permitting, be installing gutter guards while drinking water. Later in the day, I will be relaxing on the couch, sipping wine and/or whisky.
AlmaOtter: So last weekend's trip to Columbus and the Illibuck game was bookended by an ER visit on the rural outskirts of Pittsburgh and a minor but complicated fender-bender in western Maryland. (We're all doing well, but good god, what a weekend.) I would very much like to sit on my couch with my dog, drink several large beers, and not go anywhere beyond my walls. Bonus points for not speaking to anyone that isn't my wife or my FiL. And that's the plan.
Now you know our plans for the weekend. Please enlighten us about where you'll be and what you'll be drinking in the comments below. And hey, we know you didn't read this. 😉
