Sherman Grants: Origami Rehabilitation
Let's do some good!
Alright, all. It's time for our very niche community of college sports degenerates to do some good! As a refresher, hit the links below, but TLDR: Last year at a similarly named site, we raised just under $5,000.00 for a Duluth-based charity that a reader proposed and the community voted for. This year, we're doing it again! You proposed options, we all voted, and the Sherman Grant recipient for this year is Origami Rehabilitation in Lansing, Michigan!

Origami Rehabilitation
"Origami is a CARF accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization resulting from a unique alliance between Peckham, Inc. and Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Origami provides comprehensive rehabilitation for children, adolescents, and adults with neurological, developmental, mental health, and orthopedic conditions through their residential and outpatient programs.
Origami is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. What begins as a one-dimensional sheet of paper is carefully crafted into a beautiful multi-dimensional piece of art. Following a life-changing injury, individuals and their families may feel defeated, flattened, and overwhelmed by the recovery journey. Like the detailed architecture of paper folding, Origami's specialized care and support bring shape and dimension back into these individuals' lives. At Origami, we support the individual and their family through each intricate detail and fold of the recovery journey to create opportunities and transform lives."
This is a fantastic organization with a wide set of projects and services focused on helping people of all ages in their rehab from neurological and mental health injuries and illnesses. As someone who has dealt with a concussion (probably plural, if we're being honest), I feel strongly about this one. Recovering from head trauma is hard as hell and Origami does phenomenal work in the Lansing, Michigan area to make it easier for their patients.
Now the fun part. We donate by fan base in increasingly snarky ways (like $20.13 to call out Illinois beating Northwestern this year in a goddamn blizzard 20-13!) and see which group can raise the most. I'll add updates throughout the bowl season to keep track of the totals.
If you want to donate directly to Origami and send me a redacted receipt to alma.otter91@gmail.com, that's awesome! If you want to avoid some of the transaction processing fees by donating as a group, go ahead and hit the link below and be sure to add your team in the comments.
As a reminder: this isn't a corporate thing (unless your company wants to do a match, in which case go for it!). It's just our small community of good-natured sports weirdos doing something positive as a collective.
Let's get at it. Every little bit counts.
