Friday's & Saturday's Games

Northwestern Wildcats 76, Boston Terriers 52

MaximumSam: The Case of the Burgled Dog Pound

Georgetown Hoyas 70, Maryland Terrapins 60

BoilerUp89: The B1G is undefeated no more. Georgetown raced out to a 11-0 lead and held on to that during a very physical two halves. Neither team won shooting awards but a combined 68 free throw attempts helped both teams score some points.

The Ohio State Buckeyes 94, Fort Wayne Mastodons 68

MaximumSam: The Buckeyes couldn't quite put the Mastodons down early, which resulted in Bruce Thornton playing 36 minutes. He put his time to good ue, scoring 38 with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. They did have a plague of awful turnovers that kept Fort Wayne in the game, so that was annoying.

Purdue Boilermakers 87, Oakland Golden Grizzlies 77

HoustonBoiler: Once again Purdue was without Trey Kaufman-Renn, their leading scorer from last season. Once again, Purdue struggled with rebounding, allowing their opponent to out rebound them (39 to 37). Unlike the Evansville game, Purdue did not shoot particularly well (making 13 of 35 3-pointers and 32 of 68 overall). This game was tied at 35 after the first half. Fortunately, Braden Smith led a second half surge that allowed Purdue to finish with a 10-point win. Purdue will need to play a lot better Thursday in Tuscaloosa to beat Alabama.

BoilerUp89: Purdue seemed to come out overlooking Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies were quicker to the ball and secured a bunch of offensive rebounds by simply wanting it more. Meanwhile Purdue tried to shoot out of a slump and bust Oaklands zone. That doesn't work when you aren't making threes. After the half Purdue did a better job of rebounding and got the ball inside a touch more to build a lead.

Iowa Hawkeyes 77, Western Illinois Leathernecks 58

Illinois Fighting Illini 113, Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 70

BoilerUp89: The Illini are taking no prisoners and scoring style points with ease.

Wisconsin Badgers 97, Northern Illinois Huskies 72

Oregon Ducks 67, Rice Owls 63

BoilerUp89: For a second consecutive game Oregon struggled with an overmatched opponent. Rice led at the half but Nate Bittle rallied the Ducks with 18 second half points to secure the victory.

UCLA Bruins 74, Pepperdine Waves 63

BoilerUp89: UCLA finished even with the Waves on the boards which explains much of the relative closeness of this result. Xavier Booker had 5 blocks for the Bruins and was a stabilizing force for them.

Minnesota Golden Gophers 95, Alcorn State 50

BoilerUp89: Its nice to see Medved doing what a competent coach does. Blow out bad low majors.

Penn State Nittany Lions 87, New Haven Chargers 43

BoilerUp89: Penn State has the best road victory by a Big Ten team this season. Let's hope that this one doesn't remain the best or the conference is in for a bad season. New Haven showed why they were previously D2.

Nebraska Cornhuskers 96, FIU Panthers 66

MaximumSam: Rienk Mast dropped a triple double with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. Skinnamarink a Rienk a Rienk.

Michigan State Spartans 69, Arkansas Razorbacks 66

BoilerUp89: Despite some poor free throwing in the closing minutes, MSU held on for the victory. Izzo remains with just 1 home loss in November. Freshman Cam Ward had 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. If he keeps that up, he wont be coming off the bench much longer.

MaximumSam: Sparty goes 1-14 from three and gets the win. Perfection.

Today's Big Ten Games

#33 Indiana Hoosiers (1-0) v #53 Marquette Golden Eagles (2-0)

Waterkeeper Alliance Invitational, Chicago
1 ET, ESPN

BoilerUp89: A big neutral site matchup in Chicago. How does DeVries offense look against a high major opponents? Marquette isn't stacked with post players so this should be a good matchup.

AO: TOM CREAN BOWL!!!

#209 Manhattan Jaspers (1-0) at #24 USC Trojans (1-0)

6 ET, B1G+

MaximumSam: I always enjoy a good little point guard, and Manhattan has one in Devin Dinkins. Plus his name matches his frame.

#47 Washington Huskies (2-0) at #40 Baylor Bears (1-0)

8:30 ET, ESPN

BoilerUp89: Scott Drew's teams have fallen a bit since that national championship but they are still big and athletic.

MaximumSam: Five star freshman Tounde Yessoufou dropped 24 in their debut against UT Rio Grande Valley. Washington needs to give him a swirlie, though still unclear if Chief Swirlie Giver Desmond Claude will be available.

Sunday's Non-Big Ten Games of Interest

#93 North Texas Mean Green at #117 Loyola Chicago Ramblers, 5 ET, Not Televised
