Big Ten Basketball December 17 Recaps, Previews, and Open Thread
Big Ten After Dark
Yesterday's Games
Michigan State Spartans 92, Toledo Rockets 69
Northwestern Wildcats 86, Valparaiso Beacon 70
PerpetuallyAggrievedWildcat: Nick Martinelli's back in his double-digits bag, the 'Cats forced 15 turnovers and scored a lot of points off them, and maybe happy days are here again in Evanston.
(Or perhaps NU shooting 24% from three-point range and giving up a lot of offensive rebounds is a weakness.)
Last big chance for a Good Non-Conference Win is this Saturday in Indianapolis against Butler. The Bulldogs beat both South Carolina and Virginia and have enough size to exploit Northwestern's rebounding struggles.
Today's Big Ten Games
#293 UTSA Roadrunners (4-6) at #37 USC Trojans (10-1)
9 ET, BTN
HoustonBoiler: More like Roadkill for USC.
#70 Arizona State Sun Devils (9-2) at #25 UCLA Bruins (7-3)
10:30 ET, FS1
MaximumSam: Will Arizona State ever move on from Bobby Hurley? His consistent record of consistent mediocrity is impressive. Of course, Arizona State's football coach is considering going to Michigan because no one will pay his players to stay put. Maybe mediocrity is all they hope for there.
#229 Portland Pilots (7-4) at #62 Oregon Ducks (5-5)
11 ET, BTN
BoilerUp89: I just want to say I'm proud of Oregon playing an in-state team.
Non-B1G Games Of Interest
#8 Vanderbilt Commodores (10-0) at #73 Memphis Tigers (4-5), 7 ET, ESPN2
#147 Youngstown St. Penguins (7-4) at #171 Bobby Morris Colonials (8-4), 6 CT, ESPN+
#131 Siena Saints (9-2) at #213 Vermont Catamounts (7-5), 7 ET, ESPN+
#159 Oakland Grizzlies (5-6) at #219 NKU Norseman (9-3), 7 ET, ESPN+
#155 North Texas Mean Green (8-3) at #42 Santa Clara Broncos (8-3), 9 ET, BallerTV
#320 Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (3-8) "vs" (at) #82 San Francisco Dons (6-5), 9 CT, ESPN+
BoilerUp89: Okay, Oakland at NKU doesn't belong on the list, but it begs the question of whether I should travel across the river and attend?
HoustonBoiler: Do you have anything better to do?
MaximumSam: Is Vanderbilt like a good athletic department now?
BoilerUp89: They are making competent hires.
