Big Day for the Hoopers in Your Life

Big Ten Basketball December 13 Recaps, Previews, and Open Thread
Did you see our three point shooting percentage last year?

Thursday Night's Games

Iowa State Cyclones 66, Iowa Hawkeyes 62

MaximumSam: The Hawkeyes jumped out to a lead but let it go in the second half and couldn't quite make up the gap. Bennett Stirtz played the whole game and the Stirtz Minute Watch sees he has played just shy of 95% of the minutes. Last year he played just shy of 99% of the minutes, so he's feeling pretty spry.

BoilerUp89: Iowa jumped out to a lead early as Iowa State couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The Hawkeyes proceeded to slow the game down to glacial speeds and tried to hold on to their lead for dear life. Unfortunately for them, the Cyclones are a really good team and even with limited possessions in a slow paced game they were able to come back and pull off the win.

Today's Big Ten Games

#10 Michigan State Spartans (8-1) at #110 Penn State Nittany Lions (8-2)

12 ET, BTN

BoilerUp89: Penn State got humiliated in their last game out. Will they show fight in this one or are they going to roll over and give up? Either way, Michigan State's defense and rebounding is going to make this a slog for the Nits.

#287 Jackson State Tigers (1-8) at #65 Northwestern Wildcats (5-4)

2 ET, BTN

BoilerUp89: Don't lose.

#96 Marquette Golden Eagles (5-5) at #9 Purdue Boilermakers (9-1)

2 ET, Peacock

BoilerUp89: Not the game Purdue thought they were scheduling last year. Marquette has lost every game they've played against a competent team and Purdue's at home. The Golden Eagles just aren't shooting the ball well this year and aren't getting turnovers at a rate you expect a Shaka team to.

#27 Nebraska Cornhuskers (10-0) at #12 Illinois Fighting Illini (8-2)

4 ET, Peacock

BoilerUp89: Is Nebrasketball for real? Are they B1G contenders? The Illini are big and strong but can have off shooting nights from three. They want this to become a game about athleticism while Nebraska probably wants this to devolve into a shooting competition.

#174 UC Davis Aggies (5-3) at #76 Oregon Ducks (4-5)

4 ET, BTN

BoilerUp89: UC Davis is the type of team Oregon has struggled with but beaten so far this year. Let's see if they've learned anything.

#327 Southern Utah Thunderbirds (4-7) at #56 Washington Huskies (6-3)

6 ET, BTN

#19 Indiana Hoosiers (8-2) at #26 Kentucky Wildcats (6-4)

7:30 ET, ESPN

BoilerUp89: In the preseason I thought this would be a Kentucky blowout barring a miraculous Indiana three point shooting night. While my thoughts on Indiana haven't changed drastically, Kentucky has been off to a poor start. They are definitely more athletic than Indiana but can they turn that into points?

#1 Michigan Wolverines (9-0) at #118 Maryland Terrapins (6-4)

8 ET, FOX

MaximumSam: Dusty May isn't currently in jail so tough to see Maryland competing here.

#153 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-5) at #63 Seton Hall Pirates (9-1)

8 ET, FS1

MaximumSam: Rutgers has been awfully bad, and Steve Pikiell needs to pick up a win here or there. I'm not dialed in to Rutgers athletics, but I have to think they are starting to take a look around.

#30 The Ohio State Buckeyes (7-2) v. #50 West Virginia Mountaineers (8-3)

Cleveland, 8 ET, ESPNU

MaximumSam: It's the first year of Ross Hodge for the Mountaineers. He wants to play very slow and stuff you into a trash can. The Buckeyes are usually happy to oblige such behavior and may bring their own trash can just to be helpful.

#24 UCLA Bruins (7-2) v. #4 Gonzaga Bulldogs (9-1)

Seattle, 11:30 ET, ESPN

BoilerUp89: The late nightcap to a day of college basketball. Mick Cronin has already been complaining about the tip time as it's past his bedtime.
