Penn State Coach Fired, Massive $49 Million Contract Bought Out, or: Franklin Gets the Benjamins

Yes, it was all for that stupid joke

Penn State Coach Fired, Massive $49 Million Contract Bought Out, or: Franklin Gets the Benjamins

Well, it happened. After the three-game slide including losses to then-winless UCLA and then-Northwestern Northwestern, the writing was on the wall. The man made 10-win seasons the norm, but in a year with title aspirations, this was too much. Presumably, some PSU-grad billionaire will cover the costs of the buyout. And presumably, Franklin will land on his feet somewhere else.

That makes two B1G coaches fired before the mid-season mark, with Franklin joining UCLA's Deshaun Foster. It seems reasonable that Wisconsin's Fickell and MSU's Smith will join them before season's end.

The coaching carousel keeps spinning, the money machine for athletics at public universities keeps going brrrrrrrrrr.

Eat at Arby's, etc, etc.
