Four Big Ten teams in action tonight and an opportunity to welcome old friend Fran McCaffrey back to a Big Ten arena.
Big Ten Recaps
Iowa Hawkeyes 76, Lipscomb Bison 54
BoilerUp89: There were some warning signs in this 22 point win for the Hawkeyes. The defense forced Lipscomb into 17 turnovers (that's actually good). However the Hawkeyes had 33 points off of turnovers. If you think that's sustainable... you have a higher view of Iowa's defense than most. Lipscomb's half-court offense outscored Iowa's by 2. The other area of concern: shooting. Iowa was 6-25 from three (24%) and an embarrassing 14 of 28 from the charity stripe.
The good news: a balanced scoring attack. Nine Hawkeyes had between 6 and 12 points of offense.
Big Ten Previews
#277 Chattanooga Mocs (0-1) at #115 Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0)
6 pm ET, BTN
BoilerUp89: The Mocs only lost to Louisville by 14 in their opener but that score looks closer than the game was as Chattanooga cut into it late in the 2nd half. Still, this could be interesting. Chattanooga shot 36.4% from three against the Cardinals and let it fly from outside. 58% of their shot attempts from the field came from behind the arc. Penn State should have an advantage inside, but if Chattanooga doesn't bother going inside the Nittany Lions will have to take advantage of that on the other side of the court.
#308 Bellarmine Knights (0-1) at #26 Indiana Hoosiers (1-0)
6 pm ET, Peacock
BoilerUp89: Scott Davenport's son Doug enters year 2 running the Bellarmine basketball program. Year 1 was pretty disappointing and year 2 is off to a rocky start as they were nearly doubled up by Vanderbilt. An inability to rebound, a turnover prone offense, and matador defense will do that. Hoosiers should roll and if they don't then start to have some concerns about the Hoosiers.
#150 Toledo Rockets (0-1) at #9 Michigan State Spartans (1-0)
8 pm ET, Peacock
BoilerUp89: Toledo is one of the teams I cheer hardest for every March, but this is just November. They lost a 1 point game against Arkansas St in their opener despite outrebounding their opponent by a lot. Turnovers were an issue and their three point shooting let them down. If the Rockets can fix those issues, they might make this a game.
MaximumSam: Toledo has an Old Friend in former Buckeye Austin Parks. He might battle with BONK under the basket. Also watch for Jeremy Fears taking on Mynor Strong in a point groin battle.
#119 Pennsylvania Quakers (0-0) at #7 Illinois Fighting Illini (1-0)
8:30 pm ET, FS1
MaximumSam: For one night only, The Fran is back in the B1G. Well, two nights, because Penn goes to MSU in December. These two teams just played in the NCAA tourney. Penn star TJ Power only dropped 6 then, he'll need a little more power tonight.
BoilerUp89: Between TJ Power and former Notre player Sir Mohammed, Penn might be winning the all-NCAA name competition. Despite racking up injuries, Illinois has continued to look very good and has a ton of depth so this one shouldn't be an issue even down multiple would be starters.
Other Games of Note
#75 McNeese Cowboys at #121 North Texas, 5 ET, ESPN+
glass: Grandmama Jr (aka McNeese's Larry Johnson) went for 31 (on 13/21 shooting) against UAB on opening night and might be the best pure scorer on a mid major roster. UNT remains both mean and green.
Kind of...: This is actually pretty damn intriguing.
#81 Wake Forest Demon Deacons at #22 Vanderbilt Commodores, 6 ET, ESPN2
Kind of...: Nerd on nerd action. Mark Byington almost got Vandy to the Sweet 16 last year. I don't think they're going anywhere.
#95 South Florida Bulls at #68 DePaul Blue Demons, 8:30 ET, truTV
BoilerUp89: Big game for USFs resume and opportunity for DePaul to show they can compete at a high enough level to make some noise in the Big East.
America East - Metro Challenge
Sickos Special
#155 Hosftra Pride at #160 Princeton Tigers, 7 ET, ESPN+
glass: This game features two great coaches (Speedy Claxton and Mitch Henderson) whose programs should both finish in the top 4 of their respective leagues. Hempstead, New York and Princeton, New Jersey are only 75 miles apart which should make for a fun atmosphere.
