By popular demand (tepid responses from waw and Hachigi2, and a ravenous, content-fueled hunger from MNW), I bring to you a new feature at the Off Tackle Republic: B1G Six Pack.
This is a simple game where you make six picks against the spread every week and points are tabulated based on both: 1) correctness and 2) how far your pick exceeded (or more likely, deviated) from the posted spread.
Think Iowa will cover as a three point favorite and they win by 10? Congrats! You’ll get five points for the correct pick, plus seven bonus points for how far you exceeded the line. This pick will give you a total of twelve points.
Think the Iowa game will also go over the 36 point game total, but the final score was 18-8? So sorry! You’ll lose five points for being wrong, plus an additional ten points for being ten points off the line. This pick would net you negative fifteen points.
Rules:
Make six picks every week. Correct picks are worth five points, incorrect picks are negative five points. Mark one of your picks as the Coldest Brew (CB), which will be worth ten points if correct, negative ten if incorrect. Bonus points are allocated based on deviation from the spread. Please include the spread with your pick (Iowa -3 (CB), Iowa/Opponent Over 36, etc). If anyone manages to get all six correct in a week, they’ll be Six Pack Certified and garner an additional twenty-five bonus points.
I’ll tabulate the scores and standings every week. Everyone starts at 1,000 Petittis. If anyone wants to join later in the season, they’ll start at the current league median value. If I make any egregious errors (Ohio State as a 27 point underdog, when they are actually favored by 27), please let me know. Obvious spread errors won’t count.
